Well, a new team is born and with it, a new era in bicycle racing in the midwest. It was evident that a team was needed in the Springfield MO area for juniors and seniors alike to come together, learn and race as one. Coach Ken Norton saw this need and decided he was up to the challenge. So Black Oak racing was born. With significant help from the semi-pro team 'St Johns Powerful Medicine' and 'Sunshine Bike Shop' the team will surely become one of the premier junior development teams anywhere.
While one of the main focuses of the team is juniors and their development as great racers, there are also several senior riders on our new team. One of our female riders is excited to start a very competitive female division of Black Oak racing. We are also proud to have a champion masters racer as well.
Winter training is in full swing with everyone looking forward to coming on strong in the 2009 season. The team is currently working on all aspects of building the team. Here are some of the exciting possibilities for the near future:
*Weekly training with a USA cycling certified coach and semi pro/pro riders from around the area.
*Summer day camps for the junior members.
*Great local training rides for team members.
*Local races put on by our sponsor team and Black Oak racing together.
*Several socials each year for the families of riders to get together and have some fun.
Many more exciting things are planned for the new team, those are just a few.
